Mikaya Petros - Italy
ABOUT Mikaya…
@courtesy Luisa Porta
Mikaya Petros was born in Milan, Italy, class of 1964, daughter of the surrealist painter Petros. She trained in her father's atelier where she made four- handed photo collages, pictorial and material works. Her encounter in the 1970s with Andy Warhol was incisive. It was in her maternal uncle's production, post-production and computer graphics house that the artist worked from a young age creating digital and video contributions. "Painting for me is like singing in the shower on a sunny day," she says. Through digital experimentation, her art investigates the Surrealist matrix, giving rise to conceptual and formal research with a breath that deepens the boundary between Reality, Time and Symbolism. The subjects of her works, realized through a digital photographic language, live in a contemporary dreamlike dimension. In her creative process Virtual Reality and Temporal Spaces are investigated, decomposed and reassembled in a neo-contemporary vision. This is the mirror and parallel reflection of a world yet to be deciphered.
Her works have been exhibited at the Expo Fiera in Milan, the Biennale BID in Trieste 2021, the Michelangelo Expo Prize in Rome, Arte Laguna World at the Arsenale, the Dante Alighieri Palazzo Borghese Prize in Florence, the Dante Academy in London 2021, the Enchanted Garden Exhibition in Belgium, the Luxemburg Prize, the Tower House in the UK, at XI Esposición Internacional in Valencia in Spain, at 5th Pasa Art Festival in Korea, at Osten Biennale in Macedonia, at Big Screen Plaza and Found Work of Art in NYC in USA , at Art Facts and International Painting Biennale in Hamburg 2022. Her works in the Permanent Collections of Sartori Archive in Mantova, Ca' Pesaro Museum in Venice, Como Landscape Museum , Cica Museum in Korea, The Art Center Dover New Hampshire USA, Maritime of Bordeux in France and the Permanent Collection in the Serpone Foundation in Rome, Mykonos and Syros Museums in Greece and Moca Museum.

I like to place oil painting at the center of my work, a familiar aroma since I grew up among brushes in my father's studio. I draw on the canvas an intermediate space between the before and after, between the saying and the magical silence with long oblique lines, a legacy of my passion for photography I like to experiment with a variety of materials creating what becomes almost an extension of my pictorial discourse in space. I love polychromy and the unusual use of colored pigments on medium and large canvases. I have an abstract dna and the figurative element tells my contemporaneity. I represent the human cloning of our near future, as in the work entitled Clonable Identity permanently in the Cà Pesaro Museum.

Unspoken Words best expresses my research, through Art, not only introspective, investigating the relationship between spirit and body, but also between the individual, her silhouette and the surrounding atmosphere.In the painting an almost sculptural agglomeration weighs down on the head of the female subject arching her back. These are the ideas, thoughts , aspirations that bounce around in our heads, rising upward sometimes remaining, as fixed thoughts, others evaporating from our memory. It is a process in which the word is fugitive, remains inside us and will never be uttered.The work is part of the Permanent Collection Fondazione Serpone Roma and was set to music by soprano Silvia Colombini listenable through a dedicated qrcode.
Title: "Dante and Beatrice's Eden"
Materials: oil on canvas
Measurements: 50cm x 50cm
Year: 2022
Price: $ 5000 USD

This artwork is inspired by the last verse of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri: "The Love that moves the sun and the other stars" taken from Paradiso XXXIII verse 145. First slowly two children hold hands to represent the sentiment of love, on the right the sun of Vergina, symbol of the ancient Macedonian state, refers to the painter's Hellenic roots and to the solar element, an astral constellation echoes Dante's aphorism. The abstract and polychromatic background seems to move in a metaphysical space, like the desire and the will of the poet that underlies the aforementioned phrase. The stars represent the goal to which Dante aspires and like the phrase that inspires the painting, it contains the meaning of Dante's entire work, so the pictorial interpretation contains the meaning of his artistic translation.
